HAMDEN, Conn. – Justin Edwards scored 26 points, and Alasdair Fraser had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Maine to a 76-71 men’s basketball win over Quinnipiac on Saturday.
Jon Mesghna added 13 points for the Black Bears (5-8).
The Bobcats (4-7) used a 15-6 run to tie the game at 59 with 9:48 left to play, but Edwards scored nine points in the next eight-plus minutes to help the Black Bears take a 74-69 advantage with 1:17 remaining.
Evan Conti made a layup to cut Quinnipiac’s deficit to three, 74-71 with 47 seconds left, but Zaid Heart missed a tying 3-pointer and Fraser hit two free throws for Maine with five seconds left.
CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS 81, USM 75: The Stags (7-4) went 4 of 6 from the foul line down the stretch to hold off the Huskies (6-4) in overtime at the Salem State Holiday Classic in Salem, Mass.
The Huskies rallied to tie the game and force overtime on a 3-pointer by Brandon Tomah with 4.7 seconds left in regulation.
The Huskies were paced by Tomah with 15 points. Alex Kee and Conor Sullivan had 13 points apiece, and Sean Bergeron added 12 points off the bench.
Sullivan and James Odneal led the Huskies with eight rebounds each.
BRANDEIS 85, BATES 68: Gabriel Moton had 21 points and 12 rebounds to propel the Judges (9-2) past the Bobcats (5-7) at Lewiston.
Brandeis opened with an 11-2 run and led wire to wire.
Ed Bogdanovich paced Bates with 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Mark Brust and Graham Safford had 13 points each.
SOUTHERN MAINE 75, D’YOUVILLE 55: Jordan Grant scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Huskies (10-0) remained unbeaten with a win over the Spartans (3-6) at Salem, Mass.
Rebecca Knight recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies, while Nash Biliew had nine points and eight boards in 14 minutes off the bench.
BOWDOIN 66, CLARKSON 35: Kaitlin Donahoe scored 20 points with nine assists and four steals to power the Polar Bears (4-4) past the Golden Knights (2-5) in the opening round of the Bowdoin Holiday Invitational at Brunswick.
Kristen Prue added 17 points, including five 3-pointers for Bowdoin.
BOWDOIN 3, ST. NORBERT 2: The Polar Bears (5-1-1) got goals from Chelsea MacNeil, Ariana Bourque and Kim Tess-Wanat in the first two periods and held off a third-period charge from the Green Knights (4-5-2) at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis.
Schuyler Nardelli and Kayte Holtz each had two assists for Bowdoin.
