Navy Seaman Erik C. Murphy, son of Patricia and stepson of Dan Whitney of Bowdoinham, has recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
Navy Seaman Recruit Joshua J. Johnston and other sailors from the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) recently conducted operations in the Asia-Pacific region with sailors from the USS George Washington (CVN 73).
The crews were engaged in live-fire training, torpedo countermeasures and several other training exercises designed to improve operations and readiness during their deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. Johnston is the son of Jason Johnston of South Berwick and he joined the Navy in August.
