SACO – A Massachusetts man was arrested on drug charges Wednesday after Saco police found him with 69 grams of crack cocaine.
Jerry Lee Adams, 43, of Hyde Park, Mass., ran from police during a traffic stop on Jeannette Avenue in Old Orchard Beach and was arrested following a “brief struggle” with police, said Saco Deputy Chief Jeffery Holland.

Officers retracing Adams’ steps found a backpack hanging from a stockade fence in an apparent effort to conceal it, Holland said. The backpack contained a small digital scale, plastic baggies and 69 grams of crack cocaine packaged for sale in various amounts.
The street value of the drugs is estimated to be $5,000, police said. A Maine Drug Enforcement agent assisted Saco police.
Adams was charged with aggravated trafficking in a scheduled drug, a Class A felony, and refusing to submit to arrest. Two other people in the car were released.
Police initiated the traffic stop after the car was spotted on Ocean Park Road in Saco being driven by a woman who was subject to random searches and testing for drugs and alcohol because of a previous violation. Adams ran from police during the stop, but officers found his footsteps in the snow, Holland said.
Adams was convicted in Massachusetts in 1993 of unlawful distribution of a Class B substance. He remains in custody at York County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court March 13.
