AUBURN – Matt Riggle’s first high school goal was a winner Monday as Cape Elizabeth edged Leavitt 2-1 in boys’ hockey.

Satchel McCarthy gave the Capers (4-7-1) a 1-0 lead at 9:32 of the second period on the power play. Riggle, a freshman, made it 2-0 with 5:08 remaining in the third.

Adam Poulin scored for Leavitt (3-5-1).

 

SCARBOROUGH 7, THORNTON ACADEMY 4: Jake Gross scored three goals to propel the Red Storm (10-1) past the Trojans (5-4) at Biddeford.

Drew Lavigne had a goal and two assists for Thornton.

BIDDEFORD 4, MARSHWOOD 0: Devon Werthner scored two goals and the Tigers (6-4) blanked the Hawks (5-7) at South Berwick.

Jon Fields stopped 17 shots for the shutout.

 

GREELY 5, YARMOUTH 2: Ted Hart scored three goals to lead the Rangers (8-2) past the Clippers (2-7-2) at Family Ice Center.

Isaak Dearden scored two power-play goals for Yarmouth.

PORTLAND/DEERING 9, SOUTH PORTLAND 2: Luigi Grimaldi notched a hat trick as the Bulldogs (6-4) cruised past the Red Riots (0-8) at Portland.

Chris Eye added a pair of goals and an assist.

Phil Densmore and Alec Neal scored for the Riots.

 

BONNY EAGLE 2, EDWARD LITTLE 1: Shayne Plummer received Derek Driscoll’s pass from the point, moved in and took a shot that rolled up the goalie’s glove and into the net for the go-ahead goal in the second period as the Scots (6-2) edged the Red Eddies (2-6-1) in Auburn.

SKOWHEGAN 7, MT. ARARAT/LISBON 2: Kyle Demchak scored two goals and Sam Edmondson stopped 12 shots to lead the Indians (10-1) to a victory at Winslow. Jason Kenney had a goal and an assist for Mt. Ararat/Lisbon (4-8).

BASKETBALL

THORNTON ACADEMY 62, BIDDEFORD 46: Quinn Richardson-Newton scored 21 points to power the Trojans (8-5) past the Tigers (4-9) at Biddeford.

Jeff Gelinas threw in 15 points, and Kevin Barrett and Reuben Moses had nine apiece for Thornton.

Biddeford was paced by Sam Methot with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

SCARBOROUGH 42, KENNEBUNK 26: The Red Storm (8-5) opened the game with a 15-0 run, keyed by two 3-pointers from Kevin Manning, and cruised to a win over the Rams (1-12) at Scarborough.

Sam Terry led Scarborough with 14 points. Manning and Dillon Russo finished with eight points apiece.

Kennebunk was paced by Austin Sandler with eight points.

 

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 61, FREEPORT 56: Andreas Kariotis made three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points, and the Patriots (3-9) pulled away from the Falcons (1-11) down the stretch at Freeport.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 54, LAKE REGION 45: Walker-James Mallory scored seven of his 18 points during the third quarter as the Raiders (5-8) expanded a 23-20 halftime lead to a 39-27 advantage against Lake Region (5-8) in Fryeburg.

Michael Triglione scored 16 for the Lakers.

 

MARSHWOOD 65, SANFORD 60: Brady Dodge racked up 19 points as the Hawks (5-8) held off the Spartans (6-7) at South Berwick.

Brady Innes added 16 points and Daniel Veino scored 10 for Marshwood, which led 29-22 at the break before Sanford knotted the score at 38-38 after three.

Ryan Camire scored 31 for Sanford.

 

CAMDEN HILLS 60, MORSE 48: Colin Morse tallied 22 points to spark the Windjammers (9-3) past the Shipbuilders (4-9) at Rockport.

Jason Kuhn added eight for Camden Hills, which built a 37-22 halftime lead.

Ethan Winglass scored 25 points for Morse.

BOOTHBAY 61, LISBON 51: John Hepburn scored 32 points as the Seahawks (13-1) downed the Greyhounds (2-11) at Lisbon Falls.

Anthony DiMauro had 10 rebounds and eight assists for Boothbay.

Tucker Brannon and Mason Haley scored 14 points apiece to pace Lisbon.

 

TRAIP ACADEMY 91, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 14: Peter Roy scored 18 points as the Rangers (6-7) handled the Lions (0-10) at Kittery.

LAWRENCE 55, BRUNSWICK 28: Nick Noiles scored 18 points and Spencer Carey added 14 to lead the Bulldogs (11-2) to the KVAC A win in Fairfield.

Brett Lancaster scored nine points to pace Brunswick (8-5).
