BRUNSWICK – The Cony hockey team didn’t earn a victory Monday afternoon, but it sure felt like the Rams did.

Austin Davis scored a goal and assisted on another as the Rams (6-3-2) rallied from two goals down in the third period to grab a 2-2 draw with Brunswick (6-5-1) in an Eastern A game at Watson Arena on the Bowdoin College campus.

“It was high intensity,” Davis said. “We knew we had to score and we stepped it up.”

Davis scored the equalizer with just 2 minutes, 8 seconds left in the third period, which sent the Cony bench into a frenzy. The junior forward came charging down the left side, skated behind the net and tried to throw the puck out front.

“But it went in off the goalie’s pads,” a smiling Davis said. “It felt pretty good. We needed it.”

Cony squandered a few opportunities in the opening two periods, including a pair of 5-on-3 power-play opportunities.

But the Rams finally broke through four minutes into the third period when defenseman Chris Murphy roofed the puck past Brunswick goalie Blake Alexander from inside the right faceoff circle.

“That got our momentum going,” Cony Coach Chad Foye said. “We had opportunities in the first two periods but we just couldn’t bury the puck. After we got that first goal, it got us going.”
