Sentencing has been delayed for a 34-year-old Buxton man who pleaded guilty in a drug smuggling ring that brought shipments of cocaine, crack-cocaine and heroin into Maine from New York.
U.S. District Judge D. Brock Hornby granted a joint motion to continue the sentencing until at least Feb. 15. The delay will give attorneys for the government and Shareef Nash time to submit briefs to the court that will be considered in Nash’s sentencing, according to the court.
A new sentencing date has not been set.
Nash pleaded guilty Sept. 2, 2011 to a charge of conspiracy to distribute cocaine base, cocaine and heroin, aiding and abetting. He is among 14 people in the state who were charged in the smuggling and distribution ring.
The charges stem from a 2010 investigation that included interception of phone calls between Nash and a Portland man, Hasan Worthy, 36, who participated in the ring.
Worthy was found guilty Nov. 7 in federal court in Portland on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine base, cocaine and heroin, aiding and abetting; two counts of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, aiding and abetting. He and his girlfriend, Nicole Webster-Gersey, 34, of Portland, are scheduled for sentencing April 22.
