ORONO — Justin Edwards scored 22 points and Alasdair Fraser 20 as Maine ended a three-game losing streak with a 71-68 men’s basketball victory Tuesday night over Vermont, which had won three straight.

Fraser, who also had 10 rebounds and eight assists, put the Black Bears (8-11, 3-3 America East Conference) ahead to stay 68-66 on a layup with 5:22 remaining.

The Catamounts (12-7, 5-2), had won 11 of their past 12 meetings with Maine.

Edwards scored 15 points in the second half, when Maine rallied from a 41-36 halftime deficit.

With game-time temperatures barely above zero, Maine held a “Beach Night” promotion.

COLBY 73, MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY 45: Chris Hudnut scored 18 of his 24 points in the first half to lead the Mules (6-10) to a 37-18 lead over the Mariners (4-12) at Waterville.

Andy Ball led the Mariners with 17 points and six rebounds, and Paul Campbell added nine points and five assists.

BOWDOIN 68, BABSON 66: Bryan Hurley scored 20 points and the Polar Bears (10-6) came away with an overtime victory over the Beavers (10-9) at Babson Park, Mass.

SOUTHERN MAINE 71, PLYMOUTH ST. 46: Alex Kee scored 15 points and the Huskies (11-7, 6-2 Little East) had no problem with the visiting Panthers (3-14, 1-7) at Gorham.

The Huskies held the Panthers to 17 points on 20 percent shooting in the first half.

USM opened up its biggest lead, 51-26, on a jumper in the second half by Tyler Penney with 8:33 remaining.

SOUTHERN MAINE 91, PLYMOUTH ST. 52: Nicole Garland scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Huskies (18-0, 8-0 Little East) continued their unbeaten season by routing the Panthers (1-16, 0-8) at Gorham.

Southern Maine led 9-0 on Garland’s first 3-pointer, and later scored eight straight points for a 19-5 lead after five minutes.

Jordan Grant had 15 points and Rebecca Knight finished with 14 for the Huskies.

BOWDOIN 80, MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY 43: Adrienne Shibles won her 100th game as Bowdoin coach and the Polar Bears (9-8) coasted by the Mariners (7-9) at Brunswick.

Now in her fifth season at Bowdoin, Shibles’ record is 100-34.

Kaitlin Donahoe had 18 points and Shannon Brady tied a school record for blocks with six.

Leah Jackson had nine points for Maine Maritime.

COLBY 72, UM-FARMINGTON 50: The Mules (7-10) made 17 3-pointers to set a school record against the Beavers (5-11) at Waterville.

Colby tied the previous record with 11 in the first half alone, matching the mark set during the 1996-97 season.

MEN’S HOCKEY

BOWDOIN 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Harry Matheson scored twice during a five-goal second period for the Polar Bears (16-1-1) against the Huskies (6-12) at Brunswick.

John McGinnis scored for Southern Maine.
