DANBURY, Conn. – Carly Murphy recorded a double-double with game-high totals of 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Western Connecticut to a 68-55 women’s basketball win and hand Southern Maine its first loss of the season in a Little East Conference game Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies (18-1, 8-1) opened the second half with a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to five, but the Colonials (14-5, 7-2) scored the next 10 points to regain control.

Jordan Grant was the only player in double figures for USM, finishing with 15 points.

MAINE 67, STONY BROOK 51: Ashleigh Roberts led four players in double-digit scoring with 14 as the Black Bears (2-18, 1-6 American East) downed the Seawolves (11-9, 3-4) at Orono.

TUFTS 55, BATES 34: The Jumbos (20-0, 7-0) took control of the game with a 14-1 run to close out the first half and led by as many as 26 in the second half in a NESCAC win over the Bobcats (9-9, 3-4) at Lewiston.

Brianna Hawkins finished with 11 points and seven rebounds to pace Bates.

ST. JOSEPH’S 68, ST. JOSEPH’S (CONN.) 48: Morgan Cahill scored 18 points and Danyelle Shufelt had 15 as the Monks (12-7, 6-2 GNAC) handled the Blue Jays (10-6, 3-3) at West Hartford, Conn.

BOWDOIN 82, COLBY 71: Kaitlin Donahoe poured in 28 points with six rebounds and four assists to lead the Polar Bears (10-8, 2-4 NESCAC) to a win over the Mules (7-11, 1-5) at Waterville.

Shannon Brady added 16 points with seven boards and five blocked shots for Bowdoin.

Brooke Chandor had 26 for Colby.

DEAN 67, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 39: The Bulldogs (9-4) won easily, downing the Seawolves (12-7) at South Portland.

Katryna Gilson finished with 12 points and five rebounds to lead the Seawolves.

UNE 74, SALVE REGINA 71: The Nor’easters (14-4, 11-0) scored seven of the final nine points in overtime to rally past the Seahawks (10-8, 7-4) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Biddeford.

Beth Suggs recorded her 12th double-double of the year for the Nor’easters, with 26 points and 13 rebounds.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

STONY BROOK 79, MAINE 69: Tommy Benton posted a triple-double as Stony Brook (15-5, 6-1) beat Maine (8-12, 3-4) in America East action at Stony Brook, N.Y.

For Maine, Justin Edwards had 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Zarko Valjarevic led the team with 21 points.

USM 90, WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 77: Alex Kee scored 12 of his 16 points in overtime to lift the Huskies (12-7, 7-2 LEC) over the Colonials (4-14, 2-7) at Danbury, Conn.

Brandon Tomah and Connor Sullivan each tallied 23 points for Southern Maine.

ST. JOSEPH’S 53, LASELL 46: Zach Blodgett had nine points, and Steve Simonds, Julio Vazquez and Jerome Diggs followed with eight apiece as the Monks (12-6, 8-4 GNAC) beat the Lancers (3-16, 2-10) at Standish.

BOWDOIN 63, COLBY 49: Andrew Madlinger scored 18 points with 10 rebounds to lead the Polar Bears (11-6, 3-3 NESCAC) over the Mules (6-12, 2-4) at Waterville.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 62, SALVE REGINA 56: The Nor’easters (4-14, 3-8) held on for a Commonwealth Coast Conference win over the Seahawks (10-8, 6-5) at Biddeford.

Charles Fenner III scored a game-high 20 points to pace the Nor’easters and Devin Thompson added 17.

TUFTS 74, BATES 67: Tom Palleschi scored 19 to lead five Jumbos with double-digit scoring against the Bobcats (7-12, 2-5 NESCAC) at Lewiston.

For Bates, Ed Bogdanovich had 21 points and Mike Boornazian finished with 15.

DEAN 69, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 60: The Bulldogs (8-4) beat the Seawolves (17-6) at South Portland, despite a game-high 23 points by SMCC’s Emmanuel Donalson.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

BOWDOIN 5, WILLIAMS 0: Chelsea MacNeil, Stephanie Ludy and Kenzie Novak each scored in the first period, and Tara Connolly stopped all 19 shots she faced in net as the Polar Bears (14-2-2, 8-1-1) downed the Ephs (8-9-1, 4-5-1) at Williamstown, Mass.

MAINE 1, CONNECTICUT 1: Katy Massey scored the equalizer 2:43 into the second period for the Black Bears (4-17-3, 1-10-2) on an assist from Missy Denk as they tied the Huskies (3-19-3, 1-10-1) in a Hockey East game at Storrs, Conn.

TRINITY 1, COLBY 0: Emma Tani scored at 5:22 of the second period to give the Bantams (9-4-4, 4-3-3 NESCAC) a win over the Mules (6-12, 2-10) at Waterville.

HOLY CROSS 1, USM 1: Julia Pearl scored an unassisted short-handed goal in the second period to secure a tie for the Huskies (4-9-5, 3-6-3 ECAC) against the Crusaders (12-4-3, 6-3-3) at Gorham.

NORWICH 2, USM 0: Matt Baldino and Ben Morgan scored to give the Cadets (16-2, 11-1 ECAC) a victory over the Huskies (6-14, 3-10) at Gorham.

ST. MICHAEL’S 5, UNE 1: The Purple Knights (6-12, 3-9) scored four goals during a 2:14 span early in the second period to down the Nor’easters (5-13, 3-10) in an ECAC East game at Biddeford.
