FARMINGDALE — Sheriff’s deputies and state troopers were searching Sunday evening for a woman who robbed the Circle K convenince store, at 519 Maine Ave., at gunpoint.

A woman entered the store at about 7:23 p.m. and confronted the cashier with a pistol, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Taylor said.

She left with an undisclosed amount of money and headed north on foot.

The woman was described as white and wearing jeans, a dark jacket and something over her face.

Deputies and troopers, including canine units, were canvassing the area near the store late Sunday. Some law enforcement officers searched along the nearby Kennebec River Rail Trail for the suspect, ad scanner traffic indicated police units in Hallowell and Gardiner were also searching for the woman.

A dispatcher said no arrests had been made by 10 p.m.

The store is locally known as a Shell station and was formerly owned by Dead River Co., under its former Food Trend convenience store brand.

Additional details were not available late Sunday evening.
