AUGUSTA – Gov. Paul Le-Page is launching an effort to attract more of Maine’s young people and job seekers to technology and manufacturing careers.

The governor on Monday will join students, business leaders and members of the Manufacturers Association of Maine to launch a statewide marketing campaign to educate Maine students, parents and the public about modern manufacturing opportunities in the state.

The campaign was developed by the Manufacturers Association, the governor’s office and the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development.

Maine’s manufacturing sector employs nearly 51,000 Mainers with average annual salaries of $50,000. More than half of all manufacturing careers in Maine are considered high-tech jobs and many go unfilled because applicants don’t have the necessary skills.
