BIDDEFORD – Lauren Hayden had 17 points and seven steals as top-seeded University of New England cruised past Endicott 69-48 in the women’s basketball semifinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament at Biddeford.

Meghan Gribbin added 12 points, and Beth Suggs had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Nor’easters (23-4), who will host third-seeded Salve Regina in the championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Hayden brought her season steal total to 93 — the highest single-season mark in Nor’easters history. 

SUFFOLK 53, ST. JOSEPH’S 45: Jennifer Ruys had 14 points to lead the second-seeded Rams (22-6) over the third-seeded Monks (17-11) in the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament at Boston.

Shelby Santini had 13 points to pace the Monks, who exchanged the lead with the Rams eight times during the contest before the Rams went on a 10-2 run midway through the second half to pull away.

(8) MARYLAND 86, BOSTON COLLEGE 61: Alyssa Thomas scored a season-high 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Terrapins (22-4, 13-2 ACC) to a win at Boston — Maryland’s third consecutive victory.

(10) TEXAS A&M 82, MISSISSIPPI 53: Kelsey Bone had 24 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to help the Aggies win at College Station, Texas.

Texas A&M (21-6, 11-2 Southeastern Conference) led by 12 points at halftime.

(11) TENNESSEE 83, AUBURN 61: Meighan Simmons scored 24 points as Tennessee (21-5, 12-1) won at home to remain in sole possession of first place in the Southeastern Conference.

(13) GEORGIA 66, ARKANSAS 34: Jasmine Hassell scored 14 points as Georgia (22-4, 10-3) overwhelmed the Razorbacks at Athens, Ga., setting a school record for fewest points allowed in a Southeastern Conference regular-season game.

The Bulldogs defeated South Carolina by an identical score in the 2011 conference tournament.

(14) DAYTON 67, ST. BONAVENTURE 63: Andrea Hoover scored 13 points, and Ally Malott had 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Flyers (23-1, 11-0) to a win in an Atlantic 10 Conference game at Olean, N.Y.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

ANNA MARIA 75, ST. JOSEPH’S 63: Anthony Click had 25 points to rally the Amcats (20-7) past the Monks (17-10) in the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament at Paxton, Mass.

Steve Simonds had 19 points with five 3-pointers to lead St. Joseph’s, which built a 31-28 lead at the half before Click took over in the second half, hitting six 3-pointers to spark a 47-32 second-half advantage for Anna Maria.

(6) DUKE 88, VIRGINIA TECH 56: Seth Curry scored 19 of his 22 points in the first half as the Blue Devils (23-3, 10-3 ACC) opened a 20-point lead to win at Blacksburg, Va.

Rasheed Sulaimon added 17 points, and Mason Plumlee had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Blue Devils.

Erick Green, the nation’s leading scorer with a 25.3 average coming in, led the Hokies (11-15, 2-11) with 22 points.

BASEBALL

STETSON 6, MAINE 3: The Hatters (2-2) scored five runs in their last two at-bats in a come-from-behind win over the Black Bears (0-5) at Deland, Fla.

Maine took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning on RBI groundouts by Scott Heath and Fran Whitten.

Stetson grabbed the lead for good with three runs in the seventh.

FOOTBALL

MIAMI: The university’s clash with the NCAA is turning political. State Sen. Joseph Abruzzo, D-Wellington, is requesting a full attorney general investigation into the NCAA’s “corrupt” probe of Miami athletics.

Officials in Attorney General Pam Bondi’s office confirmed they were reviewing the request after receiving Abruzzo’s sharp-toned letter.
