HOLLIS — A fire that started in a second-floor bedroom Thursday night caused extensive smoke and water damage to a single-family home at 8 White Pine Drive in Hollis.

Hollis Fire Chief Jason Johnson said three people fled the home after it caught fire around 6 p.m. No one was injured.

Johnson said a candle caused the fire.

There were no working smoke detectors in the home. Firefighters encountered some difficulty reaching the home because the driveway and entryways had not been cleared of snow.

Four people live in the house. They were expected to stay with friends until the fire damage can be repaired.
