Ten Maine skiers have been selected to represent New England at the U.S. junior national cross country championships, to be held March 11-16 in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Jackson Bloch and Nathan Moreau of Falmouth, Thomas Rabon of Turner and Tyler DeAngelis of Readfield will race in the Older Juniors (OJ) boys’ division for skiers born in 1993 or 1994. Jenna Maddock of South Berwick and Shelby Aseltine of Wilton were chosen for OJ girls.

The J1 division for skiers born in 1995 or 1996 includes Jack Elder of Yarmouth, Tara Humphries of North Yarmouth, Hadley Moreau of Falmouth and Sadie James of Avon.

The competition starts with freestyle races on Monday, March 11, and continues with classic relays on Tuesday, freestyle sprints on Thursday and classic mass start races on Saturday.

 

Devi Maganti, the manager and tennis director at The Racket & Fitness Center in Portland, was honored as Maine Volunteer of the Year by USTA New England at the organization’s annual award ceremony held Saturday in Marlboro, Mass. Maganti has been working at the Racket & Fitness Center since 1998 and is Maine’s USTA Tennis League Coordinator.
