PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Brian Doran went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored as Maine, with a 13-hit attack, beat Chicago State 13-7 in baseball Sunday.

Frank Whitten added two hits, three RBI and two runs scored for the Black Bears (8-10), who scored five runs in the sixth to take an 8-1 lead. Nick Bernardo and Michael Fransoso drove in two runs apiece for Maine.

The Black Bears beat the Cougars (1-12) for the second time in eight days.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS RIPON: Chad Rafferty struck out eight batters and did not issue a walk while throwing a five-hitter for the Monks (4-0) in a 3-0 victory over the Red Hawks (0-3) in the opening game of a doubleheader at Auburndale, Fla.

Nic Lops, Alex Lorenc and Willie Brown each drove in a run for the Monks and Mike Pratt had a pair of hits and scored a run.

In Game 2, Nick Whittaker and Corey McNamara combined on a five-hitter as the Monks completed the sweep with a 1-0 victory.

Whittaker scattered five hits and struck out six in five innings, and McNamara struck out four in two perfect innings of relief.

The run was scored by Sam Butts on a single by Joe Coyne in the bottom of the fifth inning.

SOFTBALL

FORDHAM 4, MAINE 0: Alexis Bogdanovich gave up one earned run while tossing a six-hitter for the Black Bears (1-18), who fell to the Rams (11-9) at Clearwater, Fla.

Kristen Koslosky, Jessica Burk and Stephanie Wood each had a hit for Maine.

ST. JOSEPH’S 7, MCLA 1: Kayla Vannah pitched a five-hitter and Connie Grovo had two hits as the Monks downed the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (3-4) in their opener at Cape Coral, Fla.

ST. JOSEPH’S 7, DREW 0: Rae-Marie Copan struck out eight while pitching a one-hitter and Lindsay Moore had three hits, three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Monks (2-0) past the Rangers (0-2) at Fort Myers, Fla.

MEN’S LACROSSE

BATES 10, AMHERST 9: Dan Hines scored with 2:22 left in overtime to lift the Bobcats (1-2, 1-1 NESCAC) over the Jeffs (0-2, 0-2) at Lewiston.

Rob Highland and Will Gilkeson had three goals apiece for Bates. Jack Strain added two goals and an assist and Hines had two assists.

Amherst had rallied from a 9-6 deficit in the final 10 minutes to force overtime.

CENTENARY 16, ST. JOSEPH’S 6: Jake O’Brien scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead the Monks (1-3) in a loss to the Cyclones (3-0) at Washington, N.J.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

AMHERST 9, BATES 8: Priscilla Tyler scored the winner with 3:42 left in regulation as the Jeffs (1-1, 1-1 NESCAC) used three straight goals to rally past the Bobcats (0-3, 0-2) at Amherst, Mass.

Emma Getsinger scored three goals for Bates.

GOUCHER 16, ST. JOSEPH’S 4: Macy Pagurko scored two goals for the Monks (2-1) in a loss to the Gophers (4-2) at Towson, Md.
