Boy Scouts of America Yarmouth Troop 35 members Wes Crawford, Devon Bray and Kellen Thompson were awarded Eagle Scout status recently, a rank achieved by less than 5 percent of all Scouts.

All were required to earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, hold a leadership position in the troop for six months and conceive of and complete a service project benefiting a local nonprofit.

For his service project, Crawford, 16, a Yarmouth High School junior, built an 18-by-18 foot pavilion at the Winslow Field complex to shelter athletes and spectators from the elements during sporting events. The pavilion also is intended to be used as an outdoor classroom for the nearby elementary and middle schools.

Crawford oversaw all stages of the project, from the design to obtaining permits, collecting materials and the construction. He enlisted the help of fellow Scouts from Troop 35 and other volunteers. The project took more than 350 man hours to complete.

Bray’s project involved construction of two 16-foot wooden bridges and other trail improvements on the West Side Trail off Princes Point Road.

Kellen’s project involved building more than 100 feet of boardwalk and a rock and gravel bridge on the Pine Tree Trail, between Cleaves Street and Yarmouth High School.

Project seeks prom dress donations

The Cinderella Project of Maine is seeking donations of new and gently used prom dresses for Maine girls, along with jewelry and accessories.

The gowns will be given free to any girl in need from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 6 at the Reny’s Plaza.

Dressing rooms will be available to try on gowns, and Cinderella Project staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist with the selection process.

Dresses to be donated can be dropped off at a number of locations. Sea Goddess applications taken

Applications are being accepted for young women interested in entering the annual Maine Lobster Festival Sea Goddess Pageant.

The 2013 Sea Goddess coronation will be held July 31, as a highlight of the 66th annual festival.

The winner will receive $2,000 and will represent the Maine lobster fishing industry at events in Maine and across New England during her one-year reign.

Before the pageant, festival princesses will participate in local events and activities that promote the lobster festival.

Applicants must be single, a high school (or equivalent GED) graduate, not more than 21 years of age and a Maine resident.

Pints for Paws supports pet adoption

The Loyal Biscuit Co. and Rollie’s Bar & Grill recently teamed up to offer a Pints for Paws event benefiting P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center (formerly Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League).

More than 200 people participated in the event that raised $1,231.90 in just three hours from sales of food, beer and raffle tickets.

Bear study seeks details on sightings

Information related to a multi-year Maine black bear study is being sought from central Maine residents.

Researchers from Unity College and the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife are seeking information from residents of Dixmont, Troy, Benton, Thorndike, Unity and adjoining areas who spot bears.

Chamber takes scholarship applications

Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its $750 Joseph B. Ezhaya Scholarship to be awarded to a one-time recipient upon successful completion of the first semester of college with a 2.0 GPA or better.

Eligible applicants must demonstrate community service, attend a Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce area high school, maintain an academic average of a C or better, complete a required essay on citizenship, and be enrolled in an accredited New England college or university.
