Maine securities regulators warn about online scheme
Maine securities regulators are warning investors about a questionable online scheme offered by a foreign-based company known as Profitable Sunrise.
Officials say the company has tried to sell unregistered investment contracts through multiple online sources, prompting serious concern and action by securities officials throughout the country.
Securities Administrator Judith Shaw said the company makes promises it has no intention of keeping. Shaw said that neither Profitable Sunrise, nor its investment products, are registered in Maine as required by the Maine Uniform Securities Act.
Consumers who have invested with Profitable Sunrise are encouraged to contact the Office of Securities at (877) 624-8551 (toll free in Maine) or (207) 624-8551.
Hurricane relief efforts redoubled after blizzard
A Hurricane Sandy relief effort in Maine is taking on new urgency following last month’s historic blizzard.
Maine volunteers supported by the Portland Fire Department are launching a Hurricane Sandy relief project offering rebuilding tools and supplies to storm victims who are still trying to reclaim and rehabilitate their damaged homes. Sponsors say the project’s taken on new urgency in the wake of February’s winter storm.
On March 23, all of the fire stations in Portland will serve as collection points, and citizens can drop off any of the needed items, including eye protection, commercial grade dehumidifiers, pet supplies, non-perishable food, propane space heaters and utility knives.
Also needed are hammers, pump sprayers, bleach, work gloves, brooms, paint supplies, rollers, brush trays and tray liners and sandpaper.
