AUGUSTA — Public policy activists have presented 2,500 messages to Gov. Paul LePage’s office asking him to accept an expansion of Medicaid under the national health care law.
The Maine People’s Alliance delivered the messages after a news conference Tuesday in which speakers said the expansion of health coverage is important to them. Some said they work hard, but their jobs don’t pay much or provide health coverage.
LePage hasn’t decided whether the state should accept the government’s offer of 100 percent funding for three years and 90 percent in the fourth.
The governor, who’s on vacation, is willing to explore options but is wary of any deal that raises costs for the state. Last week, LePage asked the federal government to guarantee 100 percent of Medicaid costs for 10 years.
