FORT MYERS, Fla. – Clay Buchholz pitched one-hit ball for four scoreless innings, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 6-1 Thursday in the first of three games between the teams to end spring training.

Buchholz walked one and struck out six.

Twins right-hander Kevin Correia went five innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk with one strikeout for the Twins.

The Red Sox scored their lone run off Correia in the first inning, when Jacoby Ellsbury led off with a double, moved to third on Daniel Nava’s groundout and scored on Dustin Pedroia’s groundout.

Boston said infielder Stephen Drew will begin the season on the seven-day concussion disabled list.

ATHLETICS: Right-hander Fernando Rodriguez has undergone reconstructive elbow surgery and will begin his rehabilitation process. Typical recovery time is 12 to 18 months.

Rodriguez was acquired from Houston on Feb. 4.

ROYALS: J.C. Gutierrez has earned the final spot in the bullpen.

Gutierrez had elbow ligament-replacement surgery in September 2011 and pitched only 202/3 innings last year in the minors.

TIGERS: Detroit will start its AL title defense without a set closer after optioning rookie reliever Bruce Rondon to Triple-A Toledo.

Rondon went 2-1 with a 5.84 ERA in 13 spring training games with nine walks and 19 strikeouts in 121/3 innings.

INDIANS: Late Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller, who interrupted his baseball career to enlist in the Navy following the outbreak of World War II, is being honored by Major League Baseball with an annual award named for him.

The Bob Feller Act of Valor Award will be given each year to a major leaguer and Hall of Famer who displays good character, assists those less fortunate, supports the armed forces and conducts himself with dignity on and off the field. The Navy will give a companion award to one service member.

METS: Two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana has injured his left shoulder again and likely will need surgery and miss the 2013 season.

Santana missed the 2011 season following shoulder surgery in September 2010, then returned last year and pitched the first no-hitter in the team’s history.

His $25 million salary this year is not covered by insurance.

CARDINALS: Pitcher Adam Wainwright has agreed to $97.5 million, five-year contract covering 2014-18 that raises his guaranteed income to $109.5 million over the next six seasons.

A 31-year-old right-hander, Wainwright was 14-13 with a 3.94 ERA last year after missing the Cardinals’ World Series championship season in 2011 because of elbow surgery.

MARLINS: Veteran catcher Miguel Olivo has agreed to terms with Miami pending a physical, hours after he was released from his minor-league contract by the Cincinnati Reds.
