STANDISH – Nick Whittaker pitched a one-hitter as St. Joseph’s earned a 3-0 baseball victory in the second game of a doubleheader against Roger Williams after losing the opener, 1-0 in nine innings.
Whittaker, who struck out four and walked two, allowed a one-out single to Matt Swensen in the fourth inning.
Mike Pratt hit an RBI single and Joe Coyne drove home Nic Lops with a sacrifice fly in the first inning for the Monks (9-4). Tim Beaudette doubled home a run in the second.
Roger Williams (10-8) scored a run on an ninth-inning error to win the second game.
BATES 3, TUFTS 0: Left-hander Tom Baroni threw a five-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks as the Bobcats (6-4) opened their NESCAC East schedule with a win over the Jumbos (7-6) at Medford, Mass.
Bates scored two in the eighth inning when Samuel Warren tripled home Conor Reenstierna and scored on a single by Rockwell Jackson, who scored the other run on a single by Kevin McGregor in the first.
TRINITY 8, BOWDOIN 2: Joe Papa hit two doubles and drove in four runs as the Bantams (9-7) downed the Polar Bears (8-7) in a NESCAC East opener at Hartford, Conn.
Sam Canales hit an RBI double and Erik Jacobson had a run-scoring single for Bowdoin.
COLBY, THOMAS SPLIT: Nils Carlson had three hits and three RBI to lead the Mules (7-2) to a 6-3 win in the opener against the Terriers (1-8) at Auburndale, Fla.
Luke Duncklee, Tim Corey, and Tyler Starks each had two hits.
The Terriers held off a seventh-inning rally to win the second game, 4-3.
TUFTS 8, BATES 0: Emily Beinecke had three hits with two RBI as the Jumbos (14-1 , 1-0 NESCAC East) handled the Bobcats (4-5, 0-1) at Medford, Mass.
Bates managed five hits off winning pitcher Rebecca DiBiase, but left two runners on in the first, third and fourth innings.
TRINITY 1, BOWDOIN 0: Melissa DellaTorre tossed a one-hitter with two strikeouts and no walks, but the Polar Bears (11-6) allowed a run on an error in the third inning against the Bantams (8-5) at Hartford, Conn.
YALE 3, MINNESOTA 2: Jesse Root scored nine seconds into overtime to give the fourth-seeded Bulldogs a victory over top-seeded Minnesota in the West Regional semifinals at Grand Rapids, Mich.
Yale will play North Dakota in the regional final Saturday for a spot in the Frozen Four in Pittsburgh.
NORTH DAKOTA 2, NIAGARA 1: Andrew MacWilliams and Danny Kristo scored in a 57-second span early in the third period in second-seeded North Dakota’s comeback victory over third-seeded Niagara.
UMASS-LOWELL 6, WISCONSIN 1: Connor Hellebuyck stopped a first-period penalty shot and finished with 31 saves to help UMass-Lowell rout Wisconsin 6-1 in a Northeast Regional semifinal at Manchester, N.H.
Joseph Pendaza, Christian Folin, Shayne Thompson, Derek Arnold, Adam Chapie and Ryan McGrath scored for the top-seeded River Hawks (27-10-2). They will play Hockey East rival New Hampshire on Saturday for spot in the Frozen Four in Pittsburgh.
NEW HAMPSHIRE 5, DENVER 2: Casey Thrush scored twice and New Hampshire (20-11-7) rallied to beat Denver.
Trevor van Riemsdyk, Dalton Speelman John Henrion also scored for New Hampshire, which was outshot 19-14 in the first period, then played stifling defense over the next 40 minutes.
Casey DeSmith finished with 31 saves for New Hampshire.
Daniel Doremus and Quentin Shore scored for the Pioneers (20-14-5), who had only 14 shots in the final two periods.
