AUGUSTA — Maine wildlife officials say more than 400 deer and moose killed during last fall’s hunting seasons have all tested negative for chronic wasting disease.

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has been testing for the disease since 1999. The more than 8,500 animals that have been checked out since then have tested negative.

The department this year tested tissue samples from 404 deer and eight moose.

Chronic wasting disease is a fatal neurological disease found in deer, moose and elk.
