GORHAM – Katie Davis hit a go-ahead two-run double in a five-run fourth inning Tuesday as the University of Southern Maine won the opener 8-4 in a softball doubleheader over the University of New England.

Davis was 3 for 4 and Kristen Duross drove in three for the Huskies (2-18).

In the second game, Amanda Vaudreuil went 2 for 2 with three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base to lead UNE (12-10) to a 9-1, five-inning win.

BASEBALL

NORTHERN ESSEX CC 12, SMCC 2: Edgardo Medrano had three hits and four RBI to pace the Knights (7-8) in a five-inning win over the Seawolves (15-14-1) at Haverhill, Mass.

Michael Calabrese had two hits and scored both runs for Southern Maine CC.

MAINE 19, THOMAS 3: Michael Fransoso and Kyle Silva each had three hits, three runs scored and four RBI to lead the Black Bears (18-14) past the Terriers (5-12) at Orono.

Nick Bernardo added three RBI for Maine.

MEN’S LACROSSE

KEENE ST. 6, BOWDOIN 5: Ian Hart set up JT Galloway for the tying goal midway through the third quarter, then scored the winner 49 seconds later as the Owls (8-2) clipped the Polar Bears (6-4) at Brunswick.

Franklin Reis had four goals and an assist for Bowdoin.

Christopher Williamson of Bowdoin and Alex Sharp of Keene each made 14 saves.
