GORHAM – The University of Southern Maine continued to showcase its baseball offense Wednesday, rolling to a 16-3 victory against Colby in a nonleague game.

Tucker White went five for five with three doubles, driving in four runs and scoring four for the Huskies (17-3).

Chris Bernard and Zach Fernandes homered for the Huskies, who finished with 19 hits. Jack Glauser drove in three runs and Anthony Pisani was four for four with three runs.

The Mules (7-8) took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third with Luke Duncklee, Nils Carlson and Jake Kramer hitting solo home runs. Southern Maine responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS NORWICH: Alex Valenti struck out nine to get the first of two victories for St. Joseph’s (16-9) against Norwich (3-14) at Standish.

The Monks won 8-2 and 5-2.

Valenti scattered seven hits over seven innings, walking two.

Mike Pratt and Brandon Chase knocked in two runs each for St. Joseph’s.

Chase drove in two runs with a single in the first inning. Alex Lorenc followed with an RBI double to center and Alex Markakis added a sacrifice fly.

In the second game, Lorenc hit a two-run single in the first and a solo homer in the fifth. Tyler Laverriere got the win, lasting three innings and giving up five hits and two runs, striking out five.

Corey McNamara finished, allowing two hits and striking out five.

HUSSON POSTS ONE WIN, ONE TIE AGAINST UNE: Husson 13-8-1) defeated the Unviersity of New England 6-1 in the first game before the teams tied 7-7 in the second in a game called because of darkness at Biddeford.

In the first game, Deb Colpitts and Lona Sullivan hit RBI doubles, and Aimee Mortensen added a two-run double. Amanda Ryan pitched six innings, giving up one earned run with three strikeouts.

In the second game, UNE took a 3-0 lead in the first. Husson rallied with seven in the fourth but the Nor’easters tied it in the fifth.

Sami Shultz and Lona Sargent drove in two runs apiece for the Eagles. Kelly Murphy drove in two runs for UNE.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS SOUTHERN MAINE: Freshman Julia Geaumont allowed one hit through five innings to nail down the second of two Bowdoin victories over the University of Southern Maine (2-20) at Gorham.

The Polar Bears (15-9) won the first game 7-1 and took the second 10-1 in five innings.

Geaumont struck out five and walked none. The Polar Bears backed her up with 10 hits, including home runs from Katie Gately, Sienna Mitman and Casey Correa. Correa’s homer brought home three runs and was part of Bowdoin’s six-run fifth inning that ended the game by the mercy rule.

Stefanie Stockwell knocked in the Huskies’ run with a triple in the fourth inning.

In the opener, the Polar Baers took a 5-0 lead in the first two innings. Hanna Wurgaft was two for four with two RBI and two runs. Tricia Thibodeau allowed one earned run on seven hits and a walk.

COLBY 10, THOMAS 0: Emily Schatz singled up the middle for two runs, followed by RBI doubles from Brianna Wheeler and Tori Sansone, as Colby (7-6) scored four times in the third to open a 5-0 lead against the host Terriers (3-18) in Waterville.

The Mules added two in the fourth and three in the fifth to end the game.

COLBY 16, SOUTHERN MAINE 4: Ian Deveau had three goals and an assist as the Mules (5-6) beat USM (4-7) at Waterville.

Derek Youngman, Keith Fairbrother and Chip Grossman added two goals each for Colby. Kyle Baker led the Huskies with two goals.

ST. JOSEPH’S 16, BECKER 8: Brandon Boutin scored four goals for St. Joseph’s (6-7, 5-1 Great Northern Athletic) victory over Becker (4-9, 3-4) at Leicester, Mass.

The Monks got three goals and three assists from Austin Watts. Jake Ricciardi, Andrew Sullivan and Colby Main added two goals each, and Christopher Driscoll recorded 13 saves.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 11, GORDON 10: Pat Wolfe scored four times, including the final goal late, as UNE (9-3, 3-1 Commonwealth Coast) beat the Fighting Scots (2-10, 1-4) at Wenham, Mass.

Tyler Thomas added three goals for the Nor’easters, and Mike Allan contributed two goals and four assists. Roger Evans scored four times and Mio Sison twice for Gordon.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

ST. JOSEPH’S 15, EMMANUEL 14: Anneka Adame scored twice and Macy Pagurko once as the Monks (8-5, 4-2 Great Northern Athletic) broke a 12-12 tie with three goals in a 1:50 span to take a 15-12 lead against Emmanuel (7-3, 4-3) with 6:08 left at Boston.

BOWDOIN 20, SOUTHERN MAINE 5: Bowdoin (8-2) scored a season-high 20 goals to beat USM (7-4) at Brunswick.

Nine players scored for the Polar Bears. Megan O’Connor and Mackenzie Schleicher had four goals each. Jordan Smith added three, and Taylor Wilson, Kimberly Nault and Emma Beecher had two each.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 14, GORDON 12: Hannah Tavella and Gina Newsome each scored four goals to help UNE (5-6, 3-1 Commonwealth Coast) defeat Gordon (8-2, 3-2) at Wenham, Mass.

The Nor’easters moved past Gordon and into a second-place tie with Western New England in the league. UNE will play Saturday at Western New England.
