BALTIMORE – Eric White led off the 10th inning with a home run, his third of the day, as the University of Maine beat Maryland-Baltimore County 8-7 to complete a sweep of an America East baseball doubleheader Saturday.

White homered twice in the opener as the Black Bears (20-14, 10-3 America East) cruised to a 19-0 win over the Retrievers (8-17, 4-10).

White went 6 for 9 with six runs and five RBI in the two games. Freshman outfielder Sam Balzano of Portland was 7 for 9 with five RBI.

BOWDOIN 7, COLBY 0: Oliver Van Zant threw the fifth no-hitter in Bowdoin’s 146-year baseball history as the Polar Bears (14-9, 5-2 NESCAC) beat the Mules (7-9, 0-4) at Brunswick.

Van Zant allowed two base runners — both on errors — and struck out 11.

USM SWEEPS RIC: Logan Carman scattered nine hits in the opener, and Ryan Yates allowed five hits over eight innings in Game 2 as the Huskies (20-3, 4-0 Little East) extended their winning streak to 14 with a pair of victories over visiting Rhode Island College (6-21, 1-5), 11-3 and 6-1.

Sam Dexter had three RBI in the opener. Jake Glauser drove home five runs in Game 2.

SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE SWEEPS SOUTHERN MAINE CC: The Seawolves (15-17-1) dropped both ends of a doubleheader in South Portland, losing 7-4 and 3-1.

SOFTBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS ANNA MARIA: Erica Boulanger and Kayla Vannah combined on a five-inning no-hitter in the opener as the Monks (21-5) posted two mercy-rule wins over visiting Anna Maria (2-22).

The Monks won the first game 11-0, then took the second game 9-1 in six innings.

Danyelle Shufelt went 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBI in Game 1. Heather Tripp and Theresa Hendrix also knocked in two runs apiece.

Tripp belted three doubles, scored twice and drove in two in Game 2.

USM SPLITS WITH WESTERN CONNECTICUT: Jessica Hayden’s three-run double in the fifth inning gave the Huskies (3-21, 1-3 Little East) a 3-0 win in Game 2 of their doubleheader against visiting Western Connecticut (9-15, 3-1) after USM lost the opener, 8-7.

Jessica Hutchins pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts in the second game.

Hayden also had three RBI in Game 1.

UNE SWEEPS SALVE REGINA: Adrienne Chase hit a tying two-run homer in the seventh inning and Casey Brigham scored on a passed ball to give the Nor’easters (15-12-1, 7-5 Commonwealth Coast) a 4-3 win over Salve Regina (16-14, 8-4) in a doubleheader opener at Biddeford.

Megan Gauger had three hits in the second game, including a two-run single, and Amanda Vallante hit a two-run double to spark UNE to a 6-3 victory.

BOWDOIN 4, COLBY 0: Melissa DellaTorre struck out seven and allowed five hits as the Polar Bears (16-9, 3-4 NESCAC) shut out the Mules (8-7, 2-2) at Brunswick.

MAINE SWEPT BY BINGHAMTON: Jean Stevens hit her league-leading 11th homer in the opener, but the Black Bears (6-31, 2-6 America East) lost twice to the Bearcats (17-11, 7-1) at Vestal, N.Y., 11-2 and 5-0.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

SOUTHERN MAINE 11, WESTERN CONNECTICUT 10: Nicole LaPlante scored three goals, and the Huskies (8-4, 2-0 Little East) erased a 10-7 deficit in the last 10 minutes against the Colonials (5-6, 2-1) at Danbury, Conn.

 

ST. JOSEPH’S 18, ANNA MARIA 5: Kirstin McCombs, Cassie Diplock, Macy Pagurko and Anneka Adame each tallied a pair of goals as the Monks (8-5, 4-1 GNAC) handled the Amcats (0-8, 0-5) at Portland.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 19, UNE 18: Hannah Tavella scored five goals, and Gina Newsom finished with four goals and three assists for UNE (5-7, 3-2 Commonwealth Coast), but the Nor’easters’ late rally fell short against the Golden Bears (9-4, 4-1) at Springfield, Mass.

BOWDOIN 9, WESLEYAN 4: Jordan Smith scored four goals to propel the Polar Bears (9-2, 6-2 NESCAC) past the Cardinals (4-8, 0-7) at Middletown, Conn.

Lindsay Picard added two goals and two assists.

COLBY 11, WILLIAMS 9: Lindsay McCabe and Alex Mintz scored overtime goals to help the Mules (9-1, 6-1 NESCAC) get past the Ephs (7-5, 2-5) at Williamstown, Mass.
