In regards to the latest M.D. Harmon attack, this time on Bowdoin College (“Study shows Bowdoin swaps critical thinking for conformity,” April 12): At first, I wondered why he was even bothering. So Bowdoin slants left — big surprising whoop there.

But then I read how this hullabaloo came about. That some conservative rich guy was offended by a remark in a speech made by Bowdoin’s president and got revenge by financing a “study” by “The National Association of Scholars.” Sounds like a really wise, open-minded group of smarties, right?

But, alas, it’s just a right-wing organization founded to fight “liberal bias” on college and university campuses. Yeah, right.

It should probably should be called “The National Association of So-Called Self-Proclaimed Scholars Pushing Conservative Views and Protecting Old Rich White Guys.”

But I guess NASCSPSPCVAPORWG is too much of a mouthful.

And of course Mr. Harmon, never one to pass up an opportunity to pile on to any good attack of liberals, is doing his best to help this one along.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t doubt there are some actual true facts in this 300-page “study” and that Bowdoin could make some changes.

But just knowing that this stuff comes from the same kind of people who think that there is no global warming, that rape victims can choose to not be pregnant, that everything in the Bible is the word of God and true (thus, the world is only a few thousand years old) and that all gay people choose to be that way and live in sin — well, it’s hard to take any of it without a huge spoonful of salt.
