MOUNT DESERT ISLAND — A Massachusetts man is dead and a second fisherman missing after their 12-foot aluminum boat capsized on Long Pond.

Doug Rafferty, spokesman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, said the body of 67-year-old Richard Weimer of Charlton, Mass. was recovered Thursday.

The search for Weimer’s companion, 38-year-old Corey Farley of Seal Cove – a village in the town of Tremont – was suspended Thursday night. It will resume Friday morning.

Rafferty said the men were last seen fishing together on Long Pond around 3 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities started searching for the men after their boat was found overturned Thursday.

An autopsy will be conducted Friday by the state medical examiner’s office to determine how Weimer died.
