NASHUA, N.H. – Nick Whittaker struck out nine batters in six scoreless innings, and Alex Lorenc and Alex Markakis drove in two runs apiece as St. Joseph’s beat Rivier 6-0 to complete the sweep in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader.

The Monks (25-10, 13-3) cruised to an 11-3 win over the Raiders (8-29, 3-13) in the opener. Mike Pratt went 3 for 4 with a home run, and five RBI. Joe Coyne added two hits and four RBI.

Joe Gruntkosky got the win, allowing three runs on five hits in six innings with 10 strikeouts.

WHEATON 6, USM 1: Eric Jensen and Sean Ryan each drove in three runs as the Lyons (23-8) won at Gorham, snapping a 19-game winning streak for the Huskies (25-4).

John Carey scored Southern Maine’s run on groundout after drawing a walk. The Huskies, who beat the Lyons 15-3 at Wheaton on Thursday, were held to three hits.

STONY BROOK 1, MAINE 0: Jack Parenty singled home Joshua Mason in the top of the 10th inning giving the Seawolves (14-26, 7-11 America East) the win over the Black Bears (24-15, 13-4) at Orono.

Maine starter Mike Connolly scattered four hits in nine innings and retired 12 straight batters at one point. Luke Morrill replaced Connolly and walked Mason, who advanced to second on a fielder’s choice.

The Black Bears threatened in the ninth, but Nick Bernardo was tagged out at the plate attempting to score from second on a single to center field.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS WILLIAMS: The Polar Bears (20-9) extended their winning streak to 11, matching a school record, with victories of 4-1 and 3-2 over the Ephs (10-18) at Williamstown, Mass.

Bowdoin’s Aaron Rosen went 4 for 4 with two runs scored in the opener, then added an RBI single in the second game.

Harry Ridge earned the win in the opener with five scoreless innings of relief. He struck out three and allowed just two hits and a walk.

Henry Van Zant allowed two runs in six innings to get the win in Game 2.

SMCC SPLITS WITH DEAN: Zachary Horton scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Jeremy Gearty went 3 for 5 with a double, a home run, two RBI and three runs scored to lead the Seawolves (20-20-1) to a 15-14 win over the Bulldogs (16-16) in the second game of a doubleheader at South Portland.

Ethan Bilderback had a pair of hits and Michael Calabrese stole home for the Seawolves in a 4-2 loss in the opener.

SOFTBALL

SAINT JOSEPH’S SWEEPS SIMMONS: Connie Grovo hit a walk-off infield single in the seventh inning to give the Monks (28-8, 17-5 GNAC) a 3-2 win in Game 1, and St. Joseph’s rode the arm of Rae-Marie Copan to a 2-0 victory over the Sharks (22-12, 15-9) in Game 2 at Standish.

In the opener, Danyelle Shufelt hit a one-out single and moved to second when the Sharks failed to cover the base. She then scored on Grovo’s spinner between the pitching circle and second base.

In the second game, Copan struck out six while allowing just four and a walk and six strikouts. Shufelt tripled and scored on a Grovo groundout in the third. Heather Tripp added a solo home run in the sixth.

UNE SWEEPS NICHOLS: Abby Lambert struck out six and did not allow an earned run in a three-hitter, and Allie Frazier drove in three runs to lead the Nor’easters (21-14-1, 12-6 Commonwealth Coast) to a 6-2 win over the Bison (5-25, 3-13) in the opener of a doubleheader at Dudley, Mass.

The Nor’easters completed the sweep with a 7-2 victory in Game 2, behind two hits, two RBI and two runs scored from Casey Brigham.

BOWDOIN SPLITS WITH HUSSON: The Polar Bears (24-10) won their 13th straight with a 12-5 victory over the Eagles (25-10-1) in the first game, but the streak ended with a 5-0 loss in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Brunswick.

Gen Barlow had four RBI as Bowdoin took a 6-0 lead in Game 1. Sienna Mitman went 4 for 4 with three runs scored and Hannah Wurgraft had three hits with two RBI.

Husson broke a scoreless tie in Game 2 with three runs in the sixth. Kelsey Livermore hit an RBI single and Lyndsey Merrill drove in two.

Toni DaCampo had the lone hit for the Polar Bears.

STONY BROOK SWEEPS MAINE: Jean Stevens launched her league-leading 12th home run, but the Black Bears (7-34, 3-9 America East) dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Seawolves (25-19, 8-5), falling 4-2 in Game 1 and 3-2 in 15 innings in Game 2.

Bria Green’s double scored Shalya Giosia in the top of the 15th to give Stony Brook the edge in Game 2. Maine went in order in the bottom of the frame.

Kristen Koslosky had an RBI single for the Black Bears, who held leads of 1-0 and 2-1. Stony Brook tied it at two in the sixth on an RBI double by Green.

In Game 1, Maine trailed 4-0 in the sixth inning when Stevens hit a two-run homer.

SMCC SPLITS WITH DEAN: Kathryn Chicoine went 3 for 3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, and Danielle Mobbs added two hits and two RBI to lead the Seawolves (7-17) to a 9-6 win over the Bulldogs in the second game of a doubleheader at South Portland.

Dean took a 5-3 win in the opener. Shannon Blanchard went 2 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored for the Seawolves.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

BOWDOIN 14, COLORADO COLLEGE 3: Carolyn Gorajek had three goals and four assists to spark the Polar Bears (12-2) against the Tigers (5-10) at Brunswick.

Jordan Smith added three goals and Emma Beecher and Taylor Wilson scored two apiece for Bowdoin, which has won six consecutive games and finishes 5-0 against non-conference opponents this season.
