Bowdoin and Colby were chosen to host first-round games Wednesday night in the NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse tournament.

The Polar Bears and Mules received at-large bids to the 32-team tournament. Bowdoin (13-3) will play Bridgewater State (17-2), and Colby (12-4) faces Lasell (15-3). Both games are at 7 p.m.

If Bowdoin wins, the Polar Bears would advance to a second-round match Saturday against Susquehanna or Geneseo State at a site to be determined.

Colby’s next opponent would be either the College of New Jersey or Eastern Connecticut State.

ECAC: Southern Maine (12-7) was invited to the ECAC women’s lacrosse tournament as the No. 3 seed and will meet second-seeded Mt. Holyoke (11-4) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Western New England University in Springfield, Mass.

NCAA: St. Joseph’s is the No. 5 seed and Husson is the No. 7 seed for the NCAA Division III regionals at Wellesley, Mass.

Both teams earned automatic bids to the double-elimination tournament by winning their conference tournaments. St. Joseph’s (33-11), the Great Northeast Atlantic Conference champion, will play fourth-seeded Springfield (26-18) in its opening game at noon Thursday. Husson (31-10-1), the North Atlantic Conference champion, faces second-seeded Rowan (37-7) at 4 p.m.

ECAC: The University of New England (22-17-1) received a spot in the ECAC Division III tournament as the No. 6 seed and will visit third-seeded Keene State (21-16) at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

BASEBALL

LITTLE EAST: The six-team, double-elimination tournament begins Wednesday at the University of Southern Maine. The top-seeded Huskies (33-7) open the tournament at 9:30 a.m. against sixth-seeded Western Connecticut State (17-22).

Eastern Connecticut State (28-11-1) is the No. 2 seed, followed by Keene State (18-21), UMass-Boston (15-21) and UMass-Dartmouth (15-21).

The conference champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

NCAA: Bowdoin earned an at-large bid to the Division III tournament and will host a regional. The Polar Bears (14-4) got a first-round bye and will play either Bridgewater State or Endicott on Saturday, while Middlebury awaits the winner of a match between MIT and Simmons. The regional final is Sunday.

In case of bad weather, Saturday’s matches would be played at Foreside Fitness and Tennis in Falmouth, and the Sunday match would be moved to Maine Pines Tennis Center in Brunswick.
