PRINCETON — Maine’s top education official is visiting schools in eastern and central Maine as part of his cross-state tour to observe innovative school programs in person.

Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen is visiting the Indian Township School in Princeton on Thursday to see how students use touch-screen iPad computers in their classrooms. He’ll also observe students take part in a class teaching them about their heritage.

Bowen continues his tour on Friday with a visit to Caravel Middle School in Carmel.

The visits are part of Bowen’s Promising Practices tour that will take him to all nine superintendent regions before the end of the school year.

Upcoming tours will take him to Skowhegan, Biddeford and Belfast in the next two weeks.
