Four people died over the weekend in motor vehicle crashes in Parsonsfield, Wiscasset, Portland and South Bristol.

County and local police said at least two of the crashes were caused by excessive speed or alcohol.

• Portland police have identified the driver of a motorcycle involved in a fatal crash on Sunday as Mario Saravia, 27, of Portland. The accident occured around 3:30 a.m. on Ocean Avenue near Wellmont Road. Saravia, who was not wearing a helmet, died after his bike left the road.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Portland Police Department Traffic Division at 874-8532.

• A motorcyclist, Shawn Smith, 41, of Cornish, was declared dead at the scene of a crash Sunday on Route 25 in Parsonsfield. The cause of the accident, which did not appear to be alcohol-related, remains under investigation, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy William L. King Jr. said Constance Wood, 67, of Parsonsfield, driving a sport utility vehicle, was cresting a hill on Route 25 about 5:45 p.m. when she encountered Smith coming at her in the opposite direction.

When Smith tried to return to his own travel lane, he lost control. His motorcycle skidded and hit Wood’s 2004 Buick Rendevous SUV, which had come to a stop. Smith was wearing a helmet. King said the road where the accident took place is hilly.

• Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said a fatal crash early Saturday in Wiscasset appeared to be alcohol-related.

Cline said Dane Bonang, 26, of Wiscasset was killed when the pickup truck he was driving went off Route 144 around 2:50 a.m. and struck a tree. Passengers Michael Snyder of Bath and a 16-year-old girl were transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with injuries that were not life-threatening.

• The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said John Galloni, 55, of South Bristol died about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when his 1995 Jeep Cherokee struck several trees and a rock wall in South Bristol.

Police said Galloni was heading south on Route 129 when he entered the northbound lane. After hitting the trees and rock wall, his vehicle rolled over and landed on its roof. He died instantly. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but deputies said it appears that speed and alcohol contributed.
