PORTLAND – Somebody had to finally get a breakthrough win when the McAuley and Sanford girls’ lacrosse teams played Thursday.

Katherine Lake helped the Lions earn their first win of the year by scoring nine goals and two assists to lead the Lions (1-8) to a 15-12 win over the Spartans (0-9).

Natalie Carter added four goals and two assists for McAuley, which pulled away late in the game.

Sanford was led by Courtney Dumont and Caroline L’Heureux with four goals each.

BRUNSWICK 10, MT. ARARAT 9: Lillian Kjellman scored the game-winner in overtime to lift the Dragons (3-6) to a win over the Eagles (4-5) at Topsham.

Eliza Brooks led Brunswick with four goals and Kjellman scored twice.

Mt. Ararat was paced by Katie Labbay with three goals.

MORSE 21, LINCOLN ACADEMY 5: Sadia Crosby led the Shipbuilders (4-4) with four goals and two assists, as they pulled away from the Eagles (0-9) in the second half at Bath.

Bronwyn Morissette and Sophie Sreden added three goals each for Morse, who led 10-5 at halftime. Morissette also had one assist.

SCARBOROUGH 11, GORHAM 6: Abby Mills’ three goals led Scarborough (6-3) in a victory over the Rams (4-5) in Gorham.

Jessica Meader and Bailey Adams each scored twice for the Red Storm. Kayli St. Germain had two goals and an assist for Gorham, while Katie Tucker and Emily Lewis scored two apiece.

FALMOUTH 20, WELLS 9: Alex Bernier finished with five goals and three assists as the Yachtsmen (5-3) downed the Warriors (3-6) at Falmouth.

Angela Mallis and Sabrina Smithwick added three goals apiece for Falmouth.

Wells was led by Nicki Moody, with four goals and two assists.

MESSALONSKEE 17, GARDINER 9: The Eagles got five goals from senior Kristy Bernatchez and four from junior Allyson Fischang in a win over the Class B Tigers. Messalonskee is 9-0 and in first place in Eastern Maine Class A while Gardiner is 8-1 and in first place in Eastern Maine Class B. Kristen Kern added three goals for the Eagles while teammate Sydney Gagne scored two.

Junior Ally Day paced the Tigers with five goals while senior Brooke Davis scored four.

SOFTBALL

BIDDEFORD 12, PORTLAND 3: Abbie Paquette hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first and finished with three hits and three RBI to lead the Tigers (9-3) past the Bulldogs (2-12) at Biddeford.

Paquette also earned the win for the Tigers, striking out six and walking one while throwing a five-hitter.

Katie Plante and Alyssa Baldino each added key hits during a six-run second inning for Biddeford.

FREEPORT 9, LAKE REGION 5: Leigh Wyman knocked in three runs on four hits to lead the Falcons (5-7) past the Lakers (0-11) at Freeport. Lauren Cormier added a double for Freeport and finished with two RBI.
