A 48-year-old York man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 91 in York Saturday afternoon.

York Police said Timothy R. Gerald of 11 Cappy’s Lane was pronounced dead at the scene after his Dodge Ram pickup truck, which was traveling west,  crashed at 2:49 p.m.

Police said the truck ran off the northern side of the road and into a ditch. It then struck a large tree and began to rotate clockwise before rolling over and coming to a rest.

The only passenger, a dog, was removed from the truck with a hydraulic rescue tool and taken to the Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital where it was in critical condition.

Route 91 was closed between Scotland Bridge and Birch Hill roads for two hours.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. It is not yet known whether Gerald was wearing a seat belt.
