Happy Paddlers

9 a.m. in Boothbay Harbor

The Pemaquid Paddlers are celebrating their 10th year of warm-weather Tuesday paddles. All trips last two to three hours. The trips are easy to moderate in difficulty. Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak and wear a life jacket. All trips are free and open to the public. Call 677-6380 or email pemaquidpaddlers@aol.com. The put-in is at the Knickercane put-in site. Take Route 27 south from Route 1 toward Boothbay and turn right at the monument. Go to the four-way stop and go straight; where the road forks, go to the right and continue to the parking lot on the left.

L.L. Bean’s PaddleSport Weekend this year will feature live music, stand-up paddle board races, and an appearance from Maine Olympic gold-medalist Seth Wescott. Just minutes from the L.L. Bean’s Flagship Store in Freeport, the event at the L.L.Bean Paddling Center also will offer free boat testing as well as tours and lessons at a cost. Wescott will be on hand at the race Saturday to sign autographs. Free shuttles will be running all weekend to and from the Flagship Store and Paddling Center. Birding Festival

6 a.m.-1 p.m., Presque Isle

Join local birders at Aroostook State Park to enjoy guided bird walks, bird-banding demonstrations, a live owl display and other ornithological events. Woodfire Fun

9 a.m., June 22 in Augusta

The Viles Arboretum is the location of a wood-fire oven-building demonstration. Come gain hands-on experience constructing an authentic clay wood oven. Forgotten Stoneworks is a Manchester company that specializes in constructing a wide variety of stone structures from chimneys to veneers, and patios to brick bake ovens. Cost is $35 per person. The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the arboretum at 153 Hospital St. in Augusta. Space is limited, so call to register at 626-7989.

Youth Field Day

all day on June 23

The Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association is holding its annual youth field day. Young outdoors fans can come learn archery, fly casting, target shooting, animal tracking and kayaking. A geocaching activity will be offered for older youth. To register for the map and compass, and geocaching events, call 443-9426. Free and open to all. Youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The sportsmen’s club is on Route 209 in Phippsburg. To learn more, call 389-2749.
