ESPNBoston reported Monday the NBA has approved the the deal sending Coach Doc Rivers from the Boston Celtics to the Los Angeles Clippers. ESPNBoston.com’s Jackie MacMullan cited a league source.
The Boston Globe, however, reported the NBA has not approved the deal and the Celtics are in wait-and-see mode.
The Celtics agreed to release Rivers’ non-compete clause for a Clippers’ first-round pick in 2015. And Rivers apparently agreed to a three-year, $21 million deal with Los Angeles. But that deal is not official and neither is the transaction between the Celtics and Clippers.
League and teams sources also confirmed to ESPN that any deal presently involving Kevin Garnett and the Clippers is on hold in light of NBA Commissioner David Stern’s objections to the appearance that the trade was related to the deal involving Rivers.
NUGGETS: A person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press that Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw has agreed to succeed George Karl as Denver’s coach.
76ERS: Philadelphia received permission from the San Antonio Spurs to interview assistant coach Brett Brown of South Portland for its head coaching vacancy, according to a Yahoo.com report.
Brown, the son of legendary high school and college coach Bob Brown, has spent the last 11 seasons with the Spurs.
HEAT: Chris Bosh held the NBA championship trophy, LeBron James stood atop a double-decker bus with a cigar in his mouth, and Chris Andersen flapped his arms in a nod to his “Birdman” moniker.
The NBA champion Miami Heat were in quite a mood to party.
Players, families, staff members and friends crammed buses, flatbed trucks and cars for the parade honoring the latest Heat championship, with the caravan snaking its way through downtown Miami before a huge crowd of fans.
NETS: Center Brook Lopez had the screw replaced in his surgically repaired right foot and is expected to resume basketball activities in August.
