Alex Rodriguez on Tuesday night posted on his verified Twitter account that his hip surgeon over the weekend gave him ‘the green light to play games again!”
But the Yankees have not cleared Rodriguez to play in minor-league rehab games and GM Brian Cashman reacted angrily to Rodriguez’s tweet, according to ESPN New York.
“You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, (we will),” Cashman told ESPN. “Alex should just shut up. That’s it. I’m going to call Alex now.”
Earlier in the day, Yankees Manager Joe Girardi said Rodriguez was progressing from hip surgery. But he repeated what Cashman had said: The Yanks have not cleared A-Rod to begin playing.
CUBS: Chicago designated former All-Star Carlos Marmol for assignment, parting ways with the struggling reliever.
Marmol was 2-4 with two saves and a 5.86 ERA in 31 appearances this season.
DIAMONDBACKS: Eric Hinske’s suspension for participating in a June 11 brawl at Dodger Stadium has been reduced to one game from five.
nArizona reinstated second baseman Aaron Hill from the 15-day DL and optioned left-hander Joe Paterson to Triple-A Reno.
MARINERS: Oft-injured center fielder Franklin Gutierrez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring two days after coming off the 60-day DL for the same thing.
ROYALS: Kansas City recalled left-hander Will Smith and optioned struggling Kelvin Herrera to Triple-A Omaha.
ASTROS: Houston recalled infielders Brett Wallace and Jake Elmore from Triple-A Oklahoma City. They take the spots of shortstop Marwin Gonzalez, who was optioned to Oklahoma City, and left-hander Wade LeBlanc, who was designated for assignment.
DODGERS: Los Angeles activated Matt Kemp from the disabled list after missing 24 games because of a right hamstring strain.
REDS: Cincinnati placed second baseman Brandon Phillips on the paternity list, and he will miss the team’s two-game series in Oakland.
