NEW YORK – NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman will try to wrap up a deal Monday allowing NHL players to compete in the Sochi Olympics.

He said the league will meet in New York with the players’ association, the International Olympic Committee and International Ice Hockey Federation. Having the NHL players compete would mean a break in next year’s NHL regular season of about two weeks in February.

DAVID POILE, the Nashville Predators’ general manager, will fill the same position for the U.S. Olympic hockey team.

Pittsburgh General Manager Ray Shero will serve as associate GM and former Toronto boss Brian Burke will be director of player personnel.
