An 18-year-old Falmouth man and his 17-year-old girlfriend are in hot water after being caught in a man’s house on Huston Road near Highland Lake, eating his food and drinking his wine.

Artem Tymchenko of Falmouth and the teenage girl also face burglary charges in Cape Elizabeth, and police from that town were in court to get arrest warrants for the pair when they were picked up in Falmouth last Tuesday.

A man returned home to his seasonal residence on Huston Road on Tuesday morning and heard someone running out the back door, said Falmouth Lt. John Kilbride.

Police surrounded the area and an officer with a police dog followed their trail. When the pair emerged, they were arrested, Kilbride said.

“They’d been living at his camp, eating his food,” Kilbride said.

The pair had been eating Beefaroni and drinking wine as well as eating Pringles and breakfast cereal and drinking juice boxes and orange juice. It was unclear how long the couple had been there.

Police charged Tymchenko with burglary, violating bail conditions, criminal trespass and possession of burglary tools, Kilbride said. The girl faces juvenile charges.

In Cape Elizabeth, police had identified the pair as suspects in a series of nighttime burglaries in May and June in which credit cards, purses and electronics were stolen, said Chief Neil Williams. Residents were at home during some of those burglaries, Williams said.

Police spotted the two in the area of one burglary and obtained a search warrant for the girl’s parents’ house in South Portland, where police found some of the stolen items, Williams said. Officers were in the process of obtaining arrest warrants for the two when they learned that Falmouth police had arrested them, Williams said.

They told police they were stealing the items to get money for food, clothes, drugs and cigarettes, Williams said.
