DOVER, N.H. — A New Hampshire woman who was convicted of assault for starving a child in her care has been sentenced to 10 to 30 years in prison.

34-year-old Christina Thomas of New Durham was sentenced in Strafford County Superior Court on Monday.

The boy was the son of Thomas’ former friend, who lived at Thomas’ home from 2006 to 2010 with the child. Witnesses testified Thomas appeared to be a primary caretaker for the boy, who was abused and deprived of food, even as he cried of hunger.

The 6-year-old boy at one point weighed just 23 pounds.

The boy is now living with adoptive parents.

Thomas’ attorney had asked the judge to consider a shorter sentence of up to 10 years because of a diagnosed personality disorder.
