TORONTO – Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia had some pointed criticism for his on-air critics Thursday.

In a morning appearance on Toronto radio station Sportsnet 590 The FAN, Arencibia fired back at two Sportsnet analysts, Dirk Hayhurst and Gregg Zaun, former major leaguers who both played for the Blue Jays.

Hayhurst and Zaun have been critical of Arencibia’s play this season.

“There’s not one person in our clubhouse that respects those guys because they’re informing the fans the wrong way,” Arencibia said.

Arencibia said Hayhurst had “below-average baseball tools” and referenced Zaun’s inclusion in the Mitchell Report, baseball’s investigation into performance-enhancing drugs. Zaun has denied using PEDs.

RANGERS: Manny Ramirez reported to the team’s Triple-A affiliate at Round Rock, Texas, and said he could play as early as Sunday.

The Rangers agreed to terms on a minor league contract Wednesday with the 41-year-old slugger, who hasn’t played in the big leagues since 2011 with Tampa Bay.

Ramirez worked out with the Round Rock Express.

WHITE SOX: Chicago optioned outfielder Jordan Danks to Triple-A Charlotte.

A corresponding roster move is expected before Friday night’s game at Tampa Bay.

ROCKIES: Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki went through a light round of batting practice with minimal pain from his broken rib and thinks he could be back soon, maybe even before the All-Star break.

Tulowitzki has been on the disabled list since June 14 after hurting his rib diving for a ball in a loss to Washington.

CUBS: Center fielder Brian Bogusevic left the game against Oakland with tightness in his left hamstring.

Bogusevic struck out in his only at-bat and was replaced by Julio Borbon following the top of the third inning.

TIGERS: Miguel Cabrera was held out of the starting lineup for the game against the Blue Jays with a sore back.

Manager Jim Leyland said Cabrera, the reigning AL Triple Crown winner who leads the major leagues with a .364 batting average, could be available to pinch hit.

MARLINS: Miami activated right-hander Henderson Alvarez from the 60-day disabled list to start against Atlanta.

The Marlins optioned right-hander Tom Koehler to Triple-A New Orleans.

YANKEES: Shortstop Derek Jeter said he thinks he’s close to feeling well enough to begin playing in minor league games.

Jeter said he’s now doing everything needed before beginning a rehabilitation assignment.

• Catcher Francisco Cervelli likely will need another month before he’s back with the team.

BRAVES: Atlanta placed outfielder Jordan Schafer on the 15-day disabled list with a right ankle contusion and called up outfielder Joey Terdoslavich from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Schafer has been limited since fouling a ball off his ankle June 26. He was limping after running out a pinch-hit infield single Tuesday and only jogged when he grounded out in another pinch-hit appearance Wednesday night.

ROYALS: Outfielder Alex Gordon told Manager Ned Yost that he was feeling better after sustaining a possible concussion Wednesday night against Cleveland.

Gordon was tracking a fly ball off the bat of Jason Kipnis when he got turned around near the fencing of the Royals’ bullpen. He banged into the fence and then landed hard on the warning track dirt, where he remained motionless for several minutes.

NATIONALS: Washington activated catcher Wilson Ramos from the disabled list and optioned catcher Jhonatan Solano to Triple-A Syracuse.

Ramos missed 44 games because of a strained left hamstring.

He was batting .250 with two home runs and six RBI before he was injured.
