AUGUSTA — Maine residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during a hot spell this weekend.

Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services says high heat and high humidity will result in a heat index near 100 for some areas in southern and southwestern Maine.

Warning signs of heat stroke include hot, dry, red skin, no sweating, rapid pulse and shallow breathing, among others.

Outdoor workers are advised to drink one cup of water at least every 15-20 minutes and take frequent breaks in the shade. The department says outdoor activity should be limited to the morning or evening.

If the home doesn’t have air conditioning the department says to close windows and curtains on the sunny side and open them on the shady side.
