The Maine Turnpike’s southbound lanes were shut down for about 15 minutes Sunday afternoon while emergency personnel extinguished a fire that engulfed a pickup truck heading south near Wells.

Traffic was held back around 2:40 p.m. and allowed to resume about 2:55 p.m., Maine Turnpike dispatchers said.

As of 3:30, southbound traffic continued to be backed up and moving slowly, they said.
