AUGUSTA — Gas prices in Maine have inched up a little more than a penny in the past week, and are now 4 cents per gallon above the national average.

Price-monitoring website MaineGasPrices.com reports Monday that the average retail cost of a gallon of gas is now $3.53, compared to a national average that has dropped slightly to $3.49.

Prices in Maine are now almost 9 cents per gallon higher than a year ago and almost 3 cents lower than a month ago.

The Maine prices are based on a survey for more than 1,200 gas stations.
