Baby-faced crooner and “American Idol” finalist Clay Aiken will star in the Ogunquit Playhouse’s production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” this summer.

Aiken, 34, will play Joseph in the show, which runs at the theater July 31 through Aug. 25.

The North Carolina native first shot to fame on “American Idol” in 2003. That led to a recording career in both pop and Christian music and several albums which landed near the top of various Billboard charts.

Aiken has hosted his own TV specials and has sung and acted on Broadway, playing the role of Sir Robin in “Spamalot” in 2008 and 2009.

He’s also authored a New York Times best-selling memoir, “Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life.”

The Ogunquit Playhouse regularly features big-name performers. Sally Struthers, known for the sitcom “All in the Family,” has been an Ogunquit Playhouse star in recent years. Rue McClanahan of TV’s “The Golden Girls” and Lorenzo Lamas of the prime-time soap “Falcon Crest” were also in shows in the past 10 years or so.

With Aiken, the Ogunquit Playhouse is featuring a singer who has been on Broadway, starring in a musical written by musical theater legend Andrew Lloyd Webber. It’s based on the “coat of many colors” story in the Bible’s Book of Genesis, and was first produced on stage beginning around 1970.

The show as nominated for seven Tony Awards in its intiial run, including Best Musical.

The production’s music ranges in genre from country to calypso and from pop to rock ‘n’ roll. Some of the more popular songs include “Go, Go, Go Joseph” and “Any Dream Will Do.”

The Ogunquit Playhouse announced Aiken’s role with a news release this week. No one from the theater was available for comment Friday.

Tickets to “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” are $39 to $78 and are available at Ogunquitplayhouse.org.
