Briefs

• The Presence Radio Network’s staff and board members recently celebrated their third anniversary at a Mass and reception at the Basilica of Sts. Peter & Paul in Lewiston. On July 7, 2010, the first station hit the airwaves on WXTP 106.7 FM, which serves Greater Portland. Stations have since been added in Greater Bangor (90.3 FM), Augusta (89.5 FM), and in the Bath/Brunswick area (89.7 FM).

The network relies on listener support and a bi-annual pledge drive will be held Sept. 18-20. They have also received a $30,000 donation from Knights of Columbus Council 148 in Waterville, which will be used to complete a station upgrade in Augusta. Cynthia Nickless is executive director of The Presence Radio Network, the only Catholic radio network in the state.

• St. James Catholic School in Biddeford has named Nancy Naimey as new principal, replacing Patricia Berthiaume, who was named principal at St. John Catholic School in Brunswick. Since 2011, Naimey has served as assistant principal at St. Augustine School in Andover, Mass., and from 1999 to 2011, she was a teacher at the Kennebunkport Consolidated School and was a member of Kennebunk’s Conservation Commission from 1991 to 2001. She was recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust in 2009. Naimey holds a B.A. in art/education from Regis College and a M.S. Ed. and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Maine, Gorham.

• Holy Cross Catholic School in South Portland will join the Maine Learning Technology Initiative, made possible by a 3-1 matching grant of up to $20,000 per year. If the school raises $6,600 annually, an anonymous donor will match it with $20,000.

Students in grades 6-8 will receive a Mac Book Air that will be assigned to them for the year. Students in Grades 4-5 will each receive an iPad for the year. The school previously purchased 20 iPads that will now be made available to Pre-K-grade 3 classes. All teachers have laptop computers and will receive training and technical support.
