LEBANON — A 50-year-old man was injured when he lost control of his motorcycle after hitting sand on the shoulder of River Road.

The crash happened around 7 p.m., and the Lebanon Rescue Department said the man was headed north on River Road when his 2008 Harley Davidson Fatboy hit the sand on the shoulder. The motorcycle then hit a tree and the motorcycle skidded on its side.

The operator, who was not identified, was thrown about 10 to 15 feet from the motorcycle, the Rescue Department release said. He was wearing a helmet and was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.H., with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

River Road was closed for about a half hour while crews responded to the crash. Maine State Police are investigating the incident.
