WINDHAM — An Indiana man landed in jail this weekend after leading Windham police on a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed his van into another vehicle Saturday night.
Windham police posted on their Facebook page that they charged Jeremy Moon, 33, of Fortville, Ind., with aggravated driving to endanger, failure to stop for a police officer, criminal speed, operating under the influence, and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.
The incident began around 7 p.m. Saturday when the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office stopped Moon’s 2004 Chevrolet Venture van on Route 302 in Raymond for erratic operation.
When the van took off at a high rate of speed into North Windham’s congested business district, Windham police were asked for assistance.
Before Windham police could stop the van, the driver crashed it into the rear-end of a 2009 Honda Pilot operated by 45-year-old Robert Goodwin of McMurry, Pa.
Goodwin was not injured, but two female passengers – ages 12 and 14 – were transported to Maine Medical Center after complaining of neck and back pain. Windham police said the girls were evaluated and released shortly after their arrival.
Moon was being held Sunday night on $5,000 cash bail. His first court appearance will be Monday in Portland.
