ARLINGTON, Texas – Yu Darvish allowed two singles over 61/3 innings in his first start in 16 days, combining with three relievers on a three-hitter as the Texas Rangers beat the New Yankees 3-0 Monday night.

Darvish (9-4) struck out four and walked two, leaving after he allowed consecutive batters to reach in the seventh. He threw 60 of his 90 pitches for strikes.

Before the game, the Rangers announced they had acquired right-hander Matt Garza from the Chicago Cubs. Garza will likely make his Texas debut Wednesday night against the Yankees.

New York’s Ivan Nova struck out four and threw a season-high 112 pitches in seven innings.

All-Star closer Joe Nathan pitched the ninth for his 31st save in 32 chances for Texas.

ORIOLES 9, ROYALS 2: Chris Davis and J.J. Hardy each drove in three runs and Baltimore defeated host Kansas City to extend its winning streak to a season-high five games.

Davis, who leads the majors with 97 RBI, drove in a pair of runs.

TIGERS 7, WHITE SOX 3: Max Scherzer outpitched Chris Sale in a marquee matchup of All-Star starters, and Detroit overcame Miguel Cabrera’s injury to win at Chicago.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Cabrera was replaced at third base by Don Kelly. The 2012 AL MVP, who appeared to be holding his left side as he walked off the field, was removed with a sore hip flexor muscle and will be evaluated Tuesday.

ATHLETICS 4, ASTROS 3: Josh Reddick put Oakland on top with a two-run homer in the eighth and the Athletics remained perfect this season against host Houston.

PIRATES 6, NATIONALS 5: Andrew McCutchen hit a pair of two-run homers to back a solid outing by right-hander Charlie Morton and Pittsburgh beat skidding host Washington.

McCutchen connected in the first inning and again in the third to stake the Pirates to a 4-0 lead.

Both homers came off Dan Haren (4-11), who’s 0-8 in 11 starts since May 9.

BRAVES 2, METS 1: Jason Heyward made a diving catch with runners on first and second and two outs in the ninth inning after pinch-hitter Reed Johnson hit a go-ahead single with two outs in a two-run top half, leading Atlanta to a comeback victory at New York.

PADRES 5, BREWERS 3: Jesus Guzman homered and had three RBI lifting the Padres to a 5-3 win at Milwaukee, hours after the Brewers learned that Ryan Braun would be suspended for the rest of the season.

Guzman capped a four-run sixth off Tom Gorzelanny (1-4) with a two-out double that snapped a tie, giving the Padres a 5-3 lead.

MARLINS 3, ROCKIES 1: Tom Koehler tossed seven strong innings, Ed Lucas homered and Miami scored for the first time in four games in a 3-1 win at Colorado.

Steve Cishek notched his 18th save for Miami, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

INTERLEAGUE

DODGERS 14, BLUE JAYS 5: A.J. Ellis hit a two-run homer and drove in a career-best five runs, Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched 51/3 innings, and Los Angeles won at Toronto — the Dodgers’ fourth straight victory and 21st in 26 games.
