SANDY RIVER PLANTATION — The Maine Warden Service is asking for the public’s help in finding a Tennessee woman who went missing Sunday near Rangeley.

Geraldine Anita Largay, 66, of Brentwood, Tenn., was seen on Route 4 in Sandy River Plantation, which borders Rangeley to the southeast, according to a news release from Cpl. John MacDonald of the warden service.

Largay is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 115 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was seen last wearing a black pullover shirt, tan pants, a blue hat and a black-and-green backpack.

She had planned to meet her husband Monday in Wyman Township. She was hiking the Appalachian Trail and texted her husband at 7:15 a.m. Monday but never arrived at their meeting place.

Game wardens learned that on Wednesday evening July 24, an employee of the Stratton Motel received a call from a female hiker. The caller said she was traveling south on the Appalachian Trail and had spent Tuesday night with Largay at a lean-to on the AT. But the name of the female caller is unknown.

Anyone who can identify the female hiker or has information about Largay is asked to immediately call the Public Safety Dispatch Center in Augusta at 800-452-4664.
