Bats in Maine

The picture is bleak right now for bats in Maine and across the country, as White Nose Syndrome continues to spread. Come learn more about the effects on individual bat health and the viability of bat populations, some of which are threatened with extinction here. Bat expert Annie Kassler will discuss bat ecology and the role bats play in Maine’s ecosystems at Hidden Valley Nature Center this week. Meet at Hidden Valley’s educational center, HI-Hut. Pemaquid Paddlers

9 a.m., Damariscotta Lake

The Pemaquid Paddlers are celebrating their 10th year of warm-weather Tuesday paddles. All trips are free and open to the public, last two to three hours and are easy to moderate in difficulty. Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak and wear a life jacket. Call 677-6380. Put-in is at the public boat launch off of Route 213, two miles from the intersection of Route 213 and 215. The group will paddle to the right, toward the fish ladder in Damariscotta Mills.
