SKOWHEGAN — The Maine Warden Service and investigators from State Police Major Crimes Unit joined the search today for a Skowhegan man who has been missing since Friday night.

Vaughn Giggey III, 40, of Main Street, left his apartment about 10 p.m. Friday to walk to his mother’s house on Chamberlain Street, less than two miles away. The area is mostly rural and residential.

He never showed up, his mother, Rosanne Dubay, 58, said.

State police investigators were called just in case they are needed, Skowhegan Deputy Police Chief Dan Summers said.

Family members said state police investigators impounded Giggey’s gold Chevrolet pickup earlier today.

Dubay said she wonders if he was a victim of a crime.

“What stopped him from coming here?” she said today. “Was he abducted? Was he mugged? We don’t know anything. We don’t know what happened. He could be in Portland or out of state right now.”

Dubay struggled emotionally with her son’s disappearance in a Facebook post, too.

“Lord,” she wrote. “Thank you for keeping me together when I am falling apart.”

Dubay said Giggey has no children, but has always wanted to be a father. She said he is a devout Christian and the two of them attend church together regularly.

According to Dubay, her son and his girlfriend, Brandy Remmers, said they were going to have dinner and rent a movie for the night when they visited her after work on Friday.

“That’s the last I heard from him,” she said.

Arthur Giggey said his brother does not have a criminal record and doesn’t use hard drugs. He added that his brother smokes marijuana occasionally and that it makes him paranoid, which is why he might have wanted to see his mother Friday night.

On his own Facebook page, Vaughn Giggey wrote on Aug. 10 — two weeks before his disappearance — that he had allowed himself to fall back into “very negative behaviors.” He wrote that his relationship with his girlfriend had suffered lately and he blamed himself, asking friends to pray for her to find the love she didn’t get from him.

Remmers did not respond to requests for comment.

Skowhegan Police Chief Ted Blais said Giggey did not show up for work at the New Balance factory today.

He said wardens are scheduled to return Tuesday with dogs to conduct a more extensive search of the area.

Summers said Warden Josh Bubier met with local detectives Daryl Gordon and Ronnie Blodgett this morning to chart a course to search for Giggey.

Cpl. John MacDonald of the Warden Service said wardens are assisting Skowhegan police, which is the primary agency on the investigation.

Giggey’s brothers Arthur, 35, and Kyle, 20, and Arthur Giggey’s girfriend, Katie Obert, also met with investigators, including a state trooper, this morning.

Family members today said they searched the area between Giggey’s apartment and his mother’s house on Sunday, but did not find him.

Obert said Giggey left without his cellphone and without the keys to his pickup truck. She said Remmers told her that Giggey had not been drinking alcohol.

Giggey is about 6 feet tall, weighs about 170 pounds and has a goatee.

Skowhegan Police Department asked that anyone with information about Giggey call the department at 474-6908 or the regional communications center at 474-6465.
