OAKLAND, Calif. – Jarrod Parker got plenty of home-run help and pitched his way into Oakland’s record book, and the surging Athletics pulled into a tie atop the AL West with Texas by overpowering the Rangers 11-4 on Wednesday.
Parker (11-6) allowed two runs in six innings to extend his unbeaten streak to 18 straight starts, eclipsing Catfish Hunter’s Oakland mark set from June 2-Sept. 3, 1973. Parker also has won his last nine decisions.

Brandon Moss, Daric Barton and Coco Crisp each hit two-run homers, and Josh Donaldson added a three-run drive for Oakland.

METS 5, BRAVES 2: Lucas Duda had three hits, including a home run, and Andrew Brown added a towering two-run shot to lead New York and Dillon Gee (11-9) to a win at Atlanta.
NATIONALS 3, PHILLIES 2: Jordan Zimmermann (16-8) became the National League’s first 16-game winner, pitching seven solid innings in a win at Philadelphia.
GIANTS 13, PADRES 5: Pablo Sandoval hit three homers and drove in six runs, leading a rare power show by visiting San Francisco.
CUBS 9, MARLINS 7: Donnie Murphy homered to cap a four-run rally in the seventh inning and Chicago connected four times in all at Wrigley Field.
Starlin Castro, Dioner Navarro and Ryan Sweeney added solo home runs for Chicago.
BREWERS 9, PIRATES 3: Pirates ace Francisco Liriano lasted only three innings and Milwaukee pounded out a win at home to delay Pittsburgh from clinching its first winning season since 1992.
INTERLEAGUE
DIAMONDBACKS 4, BLUE JAYS 3: Willie Bloomquist lined his third hit for a run-scoring single in the 10th inning as Arizona avoided a three-game sweep with a win at Phoenix.
NOTES
BLUE JAYS: Toronto is shutting down right fielder Jose Bautista, on the disabled list since Aug. 21, for the rest of the season due to a nagging left hip injury.
NATIONALS: Outfielder Bryce Harper, batting .275 with 19 home runs and 49 RBI in 100 games, sat out Wednesday night to rest his ailing hip.
Manager Davey Johnson learned this week that Harper, 20, was receiving treatment, so the 20-year-old slugger was held out.
CARDINALS: First baseman Allen Craig twisted his left ankle while rounding first base and left the game in the fourth inning on Wednesday night.
DODGERS: A back injury to Hyun-Jin Ryu (13-5) forced Los Angeles to scratch the left-hander from his start Friday at Cincinnati.
